Wow: The America Play

The Independent's E-O-Y theatrical honors for 2007 came out this week. New Traditions Theatre--a company I helped form last year--and the play I directed "The America Play" received several honors. The rejoicing must go to Common Ground Theatre, though, for without Rachel and Jeff, the show would not have happened.

Best Productions
* The America Play, New Traditions

Best Direction
* TeKay, The America Play, New Traditions: Theatrical treachery didn't daunt TeKay's take on Suzan-Lori Parks

Best Lead Performance
* Lester Hill (Founding Father), The America Play, New Traditions: Lester Hill's African-American Lincoln surrogate mesmerized us.

Best Supporting Performances
* Jasmé Kelly (Lucy), Steven Rausch (Brazil): The America Play, New Traditions: The Founding Family was filled out by a world-weary Kelly and an alert Rausch as mother and son in The America Play.
